MANAI 2019 SUMMER PROGRAM

Enjoying Failure

“I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison.
Failure leads to discovery. Meaning when you fail, you are one step closer to success, because you have found one way that doesn’t work. When you learn something, you try to avoid failing and achieve your goal efficiently. However, I want you to know that it is not the most important thing.
Learning from teachers or textbooks is not as important as you think. The most important thing is to be yourself, to be eager to learn and to challenge yourself. Think, act and fail. Going through this process helps you progress better.
We are going to help you fail a lot at the Manai Summer Program in 2019. Let’s fail a lot and learn more! Why don’t we enjoy our “failing” together this summer!

Application Deadline

Messages from Past Participants

ISSJ 2018, it was way more than I ever expected. It was wonderful how people from different parts of the world became my friends and mentors in such short period of time.
We all collaborated to make a great team, and I will miss those part when we would constantly stay up till 4,5 prepping our presentations, and talk about life, and nights where we would all go wandering around stores, and just go walking on streets and laughing around.
All the kids were nice, genius, very supportive, and yeah, we became lifelong friends. We would talk to our mentors as if we were the same age. I adapted to dignifying myself, DIGGING DEEP to understand things, and just made myself better than I was before. I’ve realized that I really love these people. Even though we all went back to our countries, I’m looking forward to seeing u guys again, and wish you guys all the best. I’ll miss you guys so sooo much, you all will be in my heart forever.

Hands-on workshops can really change the mindset of a person. Moreover, the view of science and the fields I want to pursue has expanded and I believe there are more goals to achieve.

(Yusuke, Japan)

Science should be for everyone. During the program, people came together, pitched their ideas and to make something that would hopefully impact the world somehow.

Features of Summer Program 2019

Research:

Creating a research plan. Participants will get into their groups and work on their research plan. The research plan should include 4 parts.

1.Background and objective
2.Methodology
3.Hypothesis
4.References

While receiving guidance and advice from the Manai mentors, in combinations to the workshops and lectures, the students will prepare a research plan that the group will engage in the future, accordance to the actual format used by researchers. The creation of the research plan in itself will be the process to think about being a future scientist, looking into their interests and how that impacts society effectively.

Workshops:

Students will participate in workshops while working on their research. We will deal with fields that can be utilized in whatever field the students are going to be in the future, to make sure that it will function as a bridge between their future specialty fields and other fields.

Student Life in Dormitory:

Students will stay in a dormitory near the University. This will allow students to make memorable experiences, where students will build friendships with participants from around the world – as they spend time together and learn from one another. This also gives them an opportunity to immerse themselves in the university environment, which will be beneficial for their future.
